AAPD is delighted that Kim Borowicz, who will enter her junior year this fall at Michigan State University (MSU), is serving this summer as a Civil Rights Summer Intern at AAPD headquarters in Washington, DC, through August 8.

At MSU, Kim is an International Studies in Social Sciences major with a concentration in Public Policy.

Through mentoring, job-shadowing, attendance at meetings, collaborations within the disability community and general involvement in AAPD's three major program areas, Kim will acquire significant information regarding advocacy and coalition-building, both of which are critical to AAPD's activities and mission of empowering, both economically and politically, all people with disabilities in the U.S. Her work with AAPD and its key staff contacts will tie directly to the stated long-term goal of the Civil Rights Summer: to pave the way for emerging leaders to find sustaining careers within the progressive community. To further her experience and what she will take away from this summer internship, one day weekly Kim will spend time with the Civil Rights Summer staff, and meet and hear guest lecturers on various relevant topics.

This program is made possible by the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and the Leadership Conference Education Fund, The Citizens' Commission on Civil Rights and the Civil Rights Project at Harvard University.
