Can You Help Us Build a Case for Adequate Human Needs Funding?

Let Us Know!

In early February, the President will submit a budget proposal to Congress that will set in motion the process for determining funding for federal programs in FY '08. You can help us build a case for adequate human needs funding by providing us with information that demonstrates how cuts to federal social service programs affect real people.

Given this Administration's track record we assume that critical human needs programs will again be underfunded in the President's budget. Since 2002, the Administration's poor choices have led to significant cuts in health, education and many other vital social services. We need to work to turn this tide. This won't be easy but with your help we can restore funding.

Key to our ability to make a strong case for human needs program funding is having state/local statistics and anecdotal stories that illustrate how cuts to federal social service programs and existing levels of unmet need affect real people.

Here's how you can help:

  1. Send us Information
    • Please send us via email links to studies and reports, and/or anecdotal information via email that illustrate the impact of service cuts at the state or local level.
    • Send us links to reports or data about unmet need in you area (homelessness, hunger, waiting lists for services, etc.)
    • If you are an agency let us know if you have had to limit the services you provide, shorten hours, and/or lower the number of people you serve.

  2. Talk to the press
    • If you are an agency let us know if you would be willing to identify affected individuals or direct service providers who could speak to the press about the impact of funding shortfalls.

Please contact Maricela Donahue at the Coalition on Human Needs if you can help in these two ways.

Thanks!
