Yesterday you received an AAPD Action Alert on the House Budget Reconciliation bill that we expected to be voted on this week. This morning we learned that there may be a vote on the floor TODAY! So it is imperative that you make your calls ASAP! Below is an alert sent out by our friends in the Coalition on Human Needs. Please use their information in making your calls.

When you make your call, you may hear from Representative’s office that changes have been made. It is obvious that the bill proposed last week did not have the votes needed to pass it, so a few “tweaks” have been offered in the form of an amendment. They are NOT enough! Overall, the bill is still very harmful to people with disabilities and others living in poverty, including children. Simply say to your Representative or his/her staff – THIS IS NOT ENOUGH. YOU MUST VOTE NO ON THIS BILL!

Plan to Cut Services Down to Just A Few Votes in U.S. House of Representatives

We have reports that GOP leaders in the House of Representatives will try to get a vote on the floor TODAY for their budget bill to slash health care and food assistance for needy families, aid for poor elderly people and people with disabilities, child support enforcement, student aid and other human needs programs. It's going to be a VERY close vote -- so every call your Representative gets will make a difference.

* Call your Representative toll-free at 800-426-8073. *

Using this toll-free number (generously provided by the American Friends Service Committee) you can call the Capitol Switchboard and ask to be connected to your member of the U.S. House of Representatives (and if you're not sure who your member is, tell them, and they will identify your Representative and connect you). Once you're connected to someone at your Representative's office, tell them:

“My name is _______________ and I live in (your town/city). I would like Representative [name] to vote NO on the reconciliation bill to cut billions in services to vulnerable people, including Medicaid, SSI, foster care, Food Stamps, and child support. These cuts are the wrong priorities. Vote against cuts that hurt the poor and sick and vote against more unfair, unwise, and unaffordable tax breaks for the wealthy.
