REHABILITATION PROFESSIONALS: FORGING NEW ALLIANCES

February 22-25, 2007
Marriott San Diego Mission Valley
Sponsored by the National Council on Rehabilitation Education

CALL FOR PROGRAM PROPOSALS
Due October 6, 2006

The purpose of the National Council on Rehabilitation Education is to promote the improvement of rehabilitation services available to people with disabilities through quality education and rehabilitation research. The 2007 conference supports this purpose by focusing on the continuum of rehabilitation education and research, from theory to practice, in a constantly evolving global environment.

Rehabilitation has always benefited from the skills and knowledge of a wide variety of disciplines. As economic and political systems change, funding streams fluctuate and legislative modifications are made, our resilience as a profession depends upon our ability to adapt and change. In the face of these changes, however, our shared concern for issues of equity remains constant. Our areas of interest cross many boundaries and disciplines as each one considers the personal and societal cost of marginalization due to culture, disability, gender or language. By sharing knowledge and resources and nurturing stronger alliances, all disciplines benefit.

The theme of this conference, Rehabilitation Professionals: Forging New Alliances, provides an opportunity to share perspectives and strategies for strengthening working relationships with other stakeholders. Presentations are encouraged that consider research, education, and service opportunities. Members of the NCRE community are urged to co-present with individuals from other disciplines. Individuals outside the traditional NCRE membership are encouraged to share their research, work and thoughts relevant to this conference.

This Call for Proposals is an opportunity for educators, trainers, researchers, and others committed to equity for all persons to submit proposals that address state of the art practices and future directions in rehabilitation practice, education and research. Program proposals should be consistent with the conference theme and will be peer-reviewed. The length of concurrent sessions is 1 hour.

While programs focusing on any aspect of rehabilitation education and research are welcome, presentations focusing on the following areas are particularly encouraged:

  • Establishing and Strengthening Alliances: Who, Why, How?
  • Inquiry and Pedagogy
  • Research
  • International Perspectives on Rehabilitation Issues and Practices
  • Undergraduate Education in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies
  • Multicultural Issues in Rehabilitation
