US/England: Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Disability
US citizens ages 18-24 are invited to apply for a two week US/England: Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Disability exchange program, scheduled to take place in July 2003. The goals of this delegation are to strengthen cross-cultural ties, explore the performing arts and expand leadership and teamwork skills in an exciting international environment. Participants will take part in discussions on disability rights and leadership, go on excursions to London and other cities, participate in workshops on the performing arts, including music, drama and dance and experience family customs, food and culture with members of the local community. Activities will be designed to ensure that all delegates participate equally. American Sign Language interpretation and materials in alternative formats will be provided. Other accessibility arrangements will be negotiated to ensure full participation. Individuals from cultural minority backgrounds and inexperienced international travelers are encouraged to apply. The US/England: Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Disability exchange is funded by The New York Community Trust, DeWitt Wallace/Youth Travel Enrichment Fund, established in Community Funds by the co-founder of The Reader's Digest Association. Generous partial scholarships are available for this program.
