In the past two weeks, WhoWillCare.net supporters sent hundreds
of letters to nearly 250 different members of the United States
Congress in support of H.R. 1279, the Direct Support
Professionals Fairness and Security Act.
The result? Eight new U.S. Representatives have agreed to
co-sponsor this important legislation that will help stabilize
the workforce providing critical daily supports to people with
disabilities. Check if your Representative is a co-sponsor.
While adding eight new co-sponsors in two weeks is definitely
progress, we can do more and we need to add your voice to this
effort.
Please take action today: ask your U.S. Representative to co-sponsor H.R. 1279.
For Mother's Day, we shared with you a video highlighting how a
mother and son, Jeanette and Raymund, have opportunities now
that were unimaginable for them before Direct Support
Professionals (DSPs) were a part of their lives.
With support from DSPs, today Raymund visits with friends, lives
in his own apartment, and is active in a host of community-based
activities.
Because DSPs are so invaluable to people like Jeannette and
Raymund, the impact of high turnover rates and vacancies within
the workforce can be traumatic. It can take weeks or months for
people with disabilities to build a trusting relationship with
new support staff. Setbacks, changes in behavior and family
stress are common casualties of high DSP turnover rates.
Help stabilize the workforce that is so critical to millions of
Americans like Jeanette and Raymund. Ask your U.S. Representative to co-sponsor H.R. 1279, the Direct Support
Professionals Fairness and Security Act, today!
