to Honor Medicare and Medicaid in the U.S. health care system.

MRC Action Alert
We are writing you about a significant movement in Congress to honor the 40th anniversary of the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
Since its enactment in 1965 and expansion in 1972, Medicare has provided a guaranteed, comprehensive set of health care benefits for our nation’s older adults and people with disabilities. At the same time, Medicare provides vital support to the American health care system and improves the quality and safety of health care for all Americans.
Medicaid, which was established in the same 1965 legislation as Medicare, is America's largest health care program. Medicaid provides essential health care and long-term care to 53 million Americans including children, pregnant women, families, people with disabilities and older adults. Medicaid pays Medicare premiums and cost-sharing, and covers other essential services not included in the Medicare benefit package, for more than 7 million people with Medicare.
Representative John Dingell, Democrat of Michigan—one of the few remaining members of Congress who voted 40 years ago for the creation of the Medicare and Medicaid programs—is introducing two House Resolutions today concerning the vital role of Medicare and Medicaid in the U.S. health care system.
These House Resolutions, even though they do not hold the force of law, are symbolically important as the White House has its sights trained on both the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
We need you to ask your Member of Congress to honor these health care programs for older, disabled and poor Americans by signing on as a cosponsor.
Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at 202-225-3121 to talk to your representative’s office about or send an email through the Medicare Rights Center’s Action Network.
Sincerely,
The Medicare Rights Center (MRC)
