Interactive Timelines Commemorating Medicaid and Medicare's 40th Anniversary
from the Kaiser Family Foundation
July, 2005
July 30, 2005 marks the 40th anniversary of the Medicaid and Medicare programs. To commemorate the anniversary, the Kaiser Family Foundation has produced interactive timelines that track the programs’ evolution and mark major developments.
In addition to a summary of the major developments in the programs, you will find links to related material, including reports and videos, providing background information. The timelines also feature a sliding enrollment indicator so you can see how coverage under the programs has grown since 1965.
Also to commemorate the anniversary, the Foundation has produced three documentaries that examine the social needs that led policymakers to create Medicare and Medicaid, the expectations of what they would achieve and the reality of these programs today. Key policymakers, staff officials and members of Congress involved in the creation and implementation of Medicare and Medicaid are interviewed.
The videos (available July 26, 2005) and other resources can be found at Medicare and Medicaid at 40 years.
