Kerry Speaks Out on Disability Issues in Tampa, Florida

Tampa, FL - . Florida Democratic Disability Caucus Members, VIP guests of the Kerry-Edwards campaign, gave Senator John Kerry a rousing ovation when the democratic presidential nominee outlined his vision for our nations health care system, which will meet the needs of all individuals, with or without disabilities. John Kerry said that we need to ensure that Americans with disabilities have access to affordable health care that fits their needs.

Well protect the programs they count on and well ensure that these Americans can make choices about the kind of care they receive and where they will receive it, Kerry added. John Kerry, a vocal opponent of George W. Bush's proposal to turn Medicaid into a block grant program, believes that Americans with disabilities should have the right to live in their own homes and communities and not be relegated to live in nursing homes and institutions.

Kerry said that America is ready to look toward the future with the hope that America will finally fulfill the promise that Harry Truman first dared to dream sixty years ago  the promise that in the richest country on Earth, health care is not a privilege for the elected, connected, or the wealthy, it is a right for all Americans.
