Oregon to test voting via home telephones
Carole Patterson of Eugene, Oregons Independent Living Center reports that the Secretary of State and election clerks from Oregon have okayed a partnership with the Independent Living Centers (ICLs) in the state for the purpose of Help America Vote Act (HAVA) training. The partnership includes:A state phone voting experiment. England already uses a secure vote by phone system that includes text-messaging on cell phones and casting a vote via a home telephone.
- A partnership with League of Women Voters to simplify pamphlet language and offer it in accessible formats. Develop a Get-Out-the-Vote campaign and a voter registration drive.
- Development of a statewide strategy to address voter fraud in group homes or nursing home settings.
