AAPD extends its gratitude to Tom Olin for capturing the essence and true meaning of the Leadership Gala with his expert photography.

U.S. Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, R. Alexander Acosta, participated in the 2004 AAPD Leadership Gala.
Ginny Thornburgh, who is a past Henry B. Betts Award recipient, provided the invocation for the evening, in which she also paid tribute to some of the disability community's strongest leaders who are no longer with us.

The Public Printer of the United States, Bruce James, spoke at the Reception about the importance of reaching out to and hiring people with disabilities. Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN), the daughter of a Deaf individual, presented a Paul G. Hearne Award to Kevin Long, cofounder of the Global Deaf Connection.

Rep. Major Owens (D-NY) presented a Paul G. Hearne Award to Alison Ashley Hillman. The Honorable Tony Coelho, the event's emcee, presented the first-annual Linda Chavez-Thompson Award to its namesake, who is the AFL-CIO Executive Vice President, in recognition of her strong efforts to incorporate people with disabilities into the labor movement.

Wayne Lerner, President and CEO of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), presented this year's Henry B. Betts Award on behalf of RIC and AAPD to Dr. Susan Daniels.
