Gala co-chair Cheryl Sensenbrenner, also a member of the AAPD executive committee, provided welcoming remarks at the dinner/awards ceremony. Renowned journalist Judy Woodruff was magnificent as Emcee of this year's gala.

2007 Henry B. Betts Award recipient Mark Johnson was introduced at the gala by Joanne Smith, M.D., President and CEO of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), and presented with his award by Rep. Danny Davis. RIC's Joanne Smith, M.D.

Mark Johnson's award acceptance remarks rallied the event attendees! AAPD President and CEO Andrew Imparato gave a disability community overview to attendees.

Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson (left) presented a 2007 Paul G. Hearne Award on AAPD's behalf to John Register. Gregg Howard, a member of the AAPD board of directors, and Vice President of Independence Technology, a gala Lead Sponsor, making very personal remarks about his son at the Gala.

Marcie Ryan, a member of the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) Deaf Hard of Hearing Task Force, helped to introduce 2007 Linda Chavez-Thompson Award recipient Terry Stapleton, Secretary-Treasurer of APWU. Judy Beard (left) and Marcie Ryan (right) presented the Linda Chavez-Thompson Award to APWU's Terry Stapleton.

AAPD board member Richard Knowles, also SAP Americas Sr. Vice President, a Lead Sponsor of the gala, and gala co-chair Cheryl Sensenbrenner at the podium, helping to provide event closing remarks. Diane DeAngelis, AAPD’s Director of Marketing and Member Services, hosted and greeted event attendees at the AAPD membership information booth during the reception.

Mille DesBiens and Frances West from IBM and Virginia Stern from AAAS hosted AAAS interns at the Gala. AAPD Member Joseph DePhillips (left), who serves as a volunteer at each year’s Gala, greeted event guest Ed McEntee.
