Yesterday AAPD submitted letters to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Chair of the Judiciary Committee Senator Charles Grassley urging them to hold a hearing and vote for the Supreme Court nominee put forth by President Obama.
People with disabilities depend on a fully functioning Supreme Court to interpret and give effect to the important civil rights and other protections that Congress afforded them, including those in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Rehabilitation Act, the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act, and the Social Security Act programs, including Medicaid. The importance of these protections to enabling people with disabilities to live independently and be full participants in society cannot be overstated.
