July 19, 2012  |  Jennah Bedrosian

A coalition of disability rights groups – including ADAPT, the American Association of People with Disabilities, National Council on Independent Living, the National Disability Rights Network, and over 50 local and state disability rights groups and service providers – are leading a campaign to push back against the hotel industry's attack on the Americans with Disabilities Act. This campaign includes a boycott, media campaign, direct action, and continued efforts to educate regulators, lawmakers, and appointed officials on this issue.

********************************************************************************************

22 years ago, President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act into law as a promise to all Americans that our civil rights would be guaranteed, that we would be included in all aspects of the political process, and that we would have equal access to the American dream.

22 years later, we are still being denied equal access.

The fact is the hotel industry and their high-paid lobbyists have had 22 years to install fixed lifts, which would allow people with disabilities to use the same accommodations as every other guest that pays for their services, but they have failed to do so.

And now they are going so far as to lobby Congress for special exemptions under the ADA.

We will not let this happen! We must not let this happen!

We need your help. Take this quick and easy action to let the hotel lobbyist know you will not be bullied into giving up your rights. Tell them to keep their HANDS OFF YOUR ADA!
