Inside Fashion Designer Marc Ecko's Studio

February 7, 2012  |  AAPD Power Grid Blog Team

by Lara Schwartz, AAPD VP of External Affairs

I'm here at Marc Ecko's studio with six models from our community who are here for a film shoot, interviews, and production of a film about our power, style, and beauty.

Marc Ecko started our day with a talk about what style means-- a sense of yourself and how we want others to see us.  He spoke to us about what the AAPD mission means, bringing power and stories to the world to make change, and how this project will make something that endures for each of the participants.

Mark Perriello spoke too, bringing a sense of what our goals are and what our community will accomplish all together.

Our models are:

Tim Elder of Baltimore MD:  Tim is an attorney by trade and a devoted rock musician.  He brought an acoustic guitar and I'm going to try to pry a song out of him today.  He's rocking a casual look for the morning and I'll report back after he's set up with Ecko style.

Elizabeth Lalonde representing the beautiful city of Victoria BC and her personal style in black and sparkles.  She told me she dances ... to dance.  Elizabeth and I talked about how much fun it is to express ourselves through our personal style, especially with clothes like Marc Ecko's, which show our everyday selves, how we fit in our own skin out in the world.

Oz Sanchez of San Diego, bringing the humor into the mix.  Oz is a gold medalist in cycling in the Beijing paralympics.  He's shooting for four medals next time, adding rowing to his repertoire.

Alexandia Wailes of NYC:  Alexandria sports a layered style and she describes as urban boho.  As I write this she's filming an interview with Mark Ecko about herself, her style, who she is, and why she's working with AAPD to get stories out and represent our community.

Jalen Wood of NYC attends the Henry Viscardi School.  You might remember that we filmed our 30 Seconds PSA there with some of Jalen's peers.  Jalen is a passionate fan of New York sports teams.  We had a fun clash between my Red Sox nation self and his NY style.  When applying for this model gig, Jalen wrote that he would love to represent for his peers. He certainly will.

Alana Nichols, an athlete, American Southwest native, and world traveler.  Alana has represented our country in paralympic sports and is getting ready for her interview-- after a Starbucks run with Oz and friend Sarah.

It's great to be here.
