AAPD Joins White House Officials for Twitter Town Hall

by Frankie Mastrangelo, AAPD New Media Manager

On December 15th, AAPD participated in a Twitter town hall with White House officials. This event was an exciting opportunity to both engage with the administration on pressing disability issues and offer our community a platform to share their opinions.  During the town hall, Director of Public Engagement, Jon Carson, and AAPD President and CEO Mark Perriello answered questions related to transportation, healthcare and employment: issues of top concern to the disability community. These questions were pulled from both e-mails submitted prior to the event and ones asked via Twitter throughout the course of the town hall  The conversation proved to be robust and educational, addressing topics such as increasing accessible transportation options in rural areas, improving communications access in healthcare services for deaf/hard of hearing individuals, ensuring federal contractors prioritize hiring people with disabilities and more. Our community was so engaged in the event, it was hard to keep up with all of the questions!

Check back soon for a transcript of the event.
