Increasing Accessibility to Air Travel for People with Disabilities

January 11, 2012  |  AAPD Power Grid Blog Team

by Julie Arostegui, AAPD Policy Advisor

On January 9, 2012 AAPD submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) in support of DOT’s proposal to revise its rule implementing the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA).  The new rule will require that airline websites and airport kiosks be made accessible for people with disabilities.

AAPD supports efforts to increase accessibility to air travel for people with disabilities.  Implementing regulations that mandate access to websites and automated kiosks under the ACAA will ensure that people with disabilities have equal access to airline ticketing and check-in using websites and kiosks. Our comments highlight to DOT the importance of requiring full accessibility in a timely manner.  To view the comments, click here

I applaud the new rules but it is not done , yet. Many travelers with hearing loss are not able to hear the intercom system that might announce changes in scheduling , etc. Airports need to install the looping system( for hearing aid users ) that is used alot in Europe .
