Mark's Weekly Message

February 19, 2013  |  Mark Perriello

On March 5th, AAPD hosts our annual Leadership Awards Gala in Washington D.C. The Awards are a celebration of the people and organizations that are creating positive change for our community.

Among the awards bestowed are the AAPD Image Awards. These Awards honor outstanding work in mass media, which positively change public perceptions and opinions about people with disabilities. Previous winners include Stevie Wonder, Glee, and USA Network Characters Unite.

This year, AAPD will give an Image Award to the I'm A Mormon campaign, for their public service announcements, which feature honest and compelling stories of real people with disabilities. They effectively demystify and humanize the disability experience. There is no pity, awkwardness, or charity. There is only real life.

Please take a look before you form your opinion. Here are a couple of the videos I like best:

There are even more available on their website.

Please share your thoughts in the comment section after you view the videos.

The is, if not the best, certainly among the best messaging, content, and production quality I have ever seen. Substantive and breathtaking. Abundant kudos.
