AAPD and NASCAR rally against bullying
July 25, 2012 | Sarah Hillware
AAPD is taking a big step to expand our horizons! How? AAPD has teamed up with NASCAR in an effort to combat bullying. During the Brickyard 400, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, our “30 seconds” PSA will be featured all throughout “Super Weekend”.
We are very proud of NASCAR for bringing attention to this important cause. Currently, over 85% of students with disabilities have experienced some form of bullying while at school. Bullying is more than just kids being kids-it can make school a hostile and dangerous place and prevent students from receiving an education, which is their civil right.
“30 seconds” features three real students sharing a simple message: people with disabilities are powerful, self-determined individuals—not victims. Click here to see our 30-second video.
How can you help?
• Use “30 seconds” as a tool to start a conversation about keeping schools safe for all students, regardless of disability. Share it with your friends and families.
• Stay up to date on current legislation and initiatives aimed at ending bullying.
