National Forum on Disability Issues

September 28, 2012  |  Mark Perriello

Hello,

Today I am writing from Columbus, OH. I am representing AAPD at the National Forum on Disability Issues (NFDI). As a sponsor of NFDI and a member of the disability community, I know how important it is for people with disabilities to be a part of the political process.

As Ted Kennedy Jr. said, “your vote is political currency.” If we exercise our right to vote and show the unified electoral power of the disability community, our elected leaders will be more likely to support our issues.

If we start organizing now for future election cycles, we are more likely to see the Presidential candidates themselves attend.

But our needs are more immediate and It’s important to know where both candidates stand on health care, education, employment, and housing for people with disabilities; along with how both will work to improve the quality of life for Americans everywhere.

I hope in the coming months you will educate yourself on the issues and exercise your American right to vote in November.

-Is there a archive? -Will AAPD be doing a side by side comparison of the issues? -Thankful Medicaid and Olmstead issue in WA State discussed. -Glad CRPD came up. -Personally I thought Representative McMorris Rodgers struggled when trying to defend her Party's positions.

I watched NFDI stream. I hope PWD media will do coverage on this event as well as cover the issues so we can all exercise our right to vote. Thank you
