ReelAbilities Film Festival 2012

January 23, 2012  |  AAPD Power Grid Blog Team

How can art influence societal perceptions of disability? Can seeing a film change an individual’s perspective on what people with disabilities can or can’t do? ReelAbilities, the largest disability-focused film festival in the country, believes in the power of art to create social change. Founded in 2007, the festival is “dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different disabilities.” Now hosted in multiple locations across the country, ReelAbilities incorporates engaging discussions and other educational programs into their screenings as a means to celebrate diversity and promote inclusion.  This year’s festivals will be taking place in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, DC, New York, Philadelphia, and Richmond. Check back soon for more updates on the festival.
