Submit a question for the Oct 16th Town Hall Presidential Debate!

October 15, 2012  |  Ginny Thornburgh, IDAC Convener

During Tuesday night’s Presidential Debate, the candidates will entertain questions submitted by email. The most popular questions will be answered. This is a golden opportunity for the disability community to have President Obama and Governor Romney address the concerns of our community.

For many people with disabilities, Medicaid is a lifeline that allows them to continue to live and work in their communities. Yet, there have been proposals to cut the Medicaid program by as much as 1/3.  We need to make sure our elected representatives understand this and are willing to fight to ensure there are no cuts to Medicaid.

Help us ask the candidates! It will only take a few quick seconds.

1.)  Click this link, then copy & paste this question into the box.

There have been proposals to cut the Medicaid program by as much as 1/3. How would you ensure that people with disabilities, now eligible for Medicaid, will continue to receive the same level of services as are currently available?

2.)  Now encourage your friends and family to do the same!

It’s that easy!

For more background information on Medicaid and other disability questions for candidates running for federal, state and local elections, please see the brochure “IDAC Questions for Candidates: A took for civic action.” prepared by the Interfaith Disability Advocacy Coalition (IDAC).

Mitt Romney: You have made many promises if elected. My question is how do you propose to accomplish any of them if you are filibustered more than 400 times in your first term (like President Obama has been) requiring not just a majority in the but a super majority. Also seeing how Republicans did filibuster and obstruct this President a record number of times and are the most unproductive Congress ever. How much blame for the slow recovery should be placed on them?

Gov. Romney you’ve made a lot of promises in this campaign, and quite frankly it seems unlikely that anyone could deliver everything you’ve promised. You claim to have a detailed plan which will make all our dreams come true, but refuse to show it to anyone. Are you refusing to share your plan because you don’t actually have one or because you know we’ll hate it?

For Mitt Romney: Paul Ryan voted against the equal pay bill for women. Why would you choose a running mate who does not believe in equal pay for women and do you share the same view?

Since 9-11-2001 our country has been at war in several foreign countries. George W. Bush declared he was a "War President" with "war on (his) mind". Do you consider yourself a war president and will you continue to keep us in a war of some kind during your tenure, if elected/re-elected as president?

Gov. Romney - Part of your platform is reduction of government. Another part is creation of jobs. Will not the reduction of government cost jobs? What is you estimate of job loss from reducing government? Is the potential reduction of government jobs included in your estimates of jobs your administration will be be able to create through your plans, or not?

What will happen to all of the new medical changes for women's healthcare if Governor Romney wins the election?

For Both Candidates: What do you see as the role of the Federal Government in our lives, and how does this fit with your understanding of the U.S. Constitution?

I have a simple question for Governor Romney...I only know of two reasons for an offshore bank account 1. is to evade taxes and 2. is to bet against the American dollar. Which one was your reason for sending millions of dollars to offshore accounts? And why aren't you reinvesting that money to build manufacturing jobs in the US?

400,000 Americans have Down Syndrome. By sterotyping and not educating them and other disabled Americans in an inclusion setting and not expecting them to graduate with a high school diploma or college degree they are having their civil rights violated, in my opinion. And then to not take care of these uneducated Americans is double jeopardy! Don't universally take away Medicaid benefits to this segregated part of society. What will you do to help protect the rights of disabled American citizens?
