ADA 20th Anniversary Events

Plan an event around the ADA's 20th Anniversary or Find and Attend one of the Excellent Events Below...

The 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a great opportunity for people with disabilities to come together to make sure that the promise of the ADA becomes a reality! Given the fact that the employment statistics for people with disabilities in the United States have not changed significantly in the last 20 years, we certainly have a lot of work to do.

By holding events around the country, we can mobilize our local communities and bring the disability community together as a nationwide group. There are a bunch of events you could do, whether your group is large or small, and we want to help you make it happen!

Here are some possible events:

Call or visit your district's members of Congress
Deliver a signed copy of the JFAAN Spirit of the ADA Agenda to local Congressional offices
Get people together to talk about the ADA (educate ourselves). Provide snacks, have everyone write a letter and sign the JFAAN Spirit of the ADA Agenda
Hold a town hall meeting to discuss the ADA and ways that we can fulfill its promise, invite elected officials or candidates running in the upcoming 2010 elections, etc.
Create a film of people talking about disability and how it is a normal part of the human experiences. Then submit the film for the It's Normal "Reclaiming Normal" Film Competition.
Have a rally or press conference
Have a caravan or Parade
