Administrative Internship

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Administrative Assistant Intern

Salary: $12.50

Location: AAPD headquarters, Washington, DC

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Answer the main phone line:
    • Offer resources to general inquires
    • Transfer calls to appropriate staff
    • Knowledge of services for individuals with disabilities
  • Greeting guests:
    • Show them to the conference room, offer beverages, and then inform staff of their arrival  
  • Mail:
    • Pick up and open mail each day
    • Give all checks to designated staff person
    • Give all remaining mail to staff
  • Office supplies:
    • Maintain a general outlook of levels of office and kitchen supplies
    • Coordinate with Accounting to place orders
  • Events:
    • Assist in coordination of internal events and external events
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Assist with miscellaneous tasks with all departments at AAPD, including: Accounting, Development, and Programs
    • Help maintain kitchen and office cleanliness
      Provide general office support as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will satisfy the following qualifications

Skills/Knowledge

  • Strong analytical, writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Basic knowledge of legislative process
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Proficiency in social media
  • IT knowledge Desired
  • Passion for people with disabilities, poor and older Americans, with a desire to provide assistance to underserved populations

Education

  • Prospective and current students receiving Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant area of study
