Development and Fundraising Internship
Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Development, and working closely with the President and CEO, AAPD’s Development and Fundraising Intern supports all of AAPD’s fundraising efforts, with a special focus on researching, planning, and prospecting for direct funding appeals and individual donations. At AAPD, our interns are treated as staff, with the full expectations, responsibilities, and experience of working in an active and creative development department. Thus, the Development and Fundraising Intern is critical to supporting and organizing AAPD’s individual donor cultivation, campaigns, and stewardship.
The Development and Fundraising Intern also supports the development functions of AAPD, including the annual AAPD Leadership Awards Gala and other events, program funding and events, including Disability Mentoring Day, Summer Internship Programs, and foundation and corporate grant applications. Also in coordination with the Communications staff, the Development and Fundraising Intern supports special event marketing and communications materials, updates content on the AAPD website, and supports online and social media fundraising. Thus, this position requires strong written and verbal communications skills, confidence building and maintaining donor relationships, above-average organizational skills, and comfort with Microsoft Office suite, donor management tools, and web-content management software. Ideal candidates will possess a good attention to detail, strong individual motivation, and a demonstrated ability to work in a team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage gift acknowledgement, donor database, and filing of donations;

Research and prepare background for individual asks and grant applications;

Support special events and fundraising activities;

Draft and proofread professional correspondence;

Develop & disseminate fundraising materials;

Support individual donor campaigns;

Manage web content related to development and coordinate with online fundraising & marketing; and,
-
Other administrative and support duties, as assigned.
Education and Experience:
-
Two years of higher education, or the equivalent;
-
Some experience with development support and office operations (preferably experience in nonprofit fundraising or administrative support);

Comfort with soliciting individuals for donations face-to-face, on the phone, online, or via mail;

Demonstrated ability to multi-task;
-
Demonstrated ability to work in teams;
-
Comfort and familiarity with event planning;

Research, writing, editing and proof-reading skills as evidenced by past work product; and,
-
Demonstrated commitment to public-service, non-profit, or cause-oriented work.
Schedule:
This is a full-time fall internship.
Payment:
This is a paid internship at $12.5/hour.
