TaKeisha Walker

Director of Workplace & Leadership Initiatives

TaKeisha S. Walker is the Director of Workplace & Leadership Initiatives with AAPD. In addition to overseeing all of AAPD’s new and existing programs, she works alongside corporate partners to increase visibility and employment opportunities for AAPD members and all people with disabilities.

Originally, from Dallas, Texas, TaKeisha has been on the east coast for a little over six years working in higher education as an executive as well as an adjunct instructor for the University of Maryland.  TaKeisha teaches career development courses and a course on educational principles for incoming freshmen.

Her career has focused on promoting the importance of education and the linkage between educational attainment and career success.  TaKeisha spent her twelve-year career in the public sector, helping underserved populations leverage their skills and attributes for career success.  Prior to moving to the DC area, she worked as a career and educational counselor managing four Workforce Investment Act (WIA) grants serving youth and adults in the inner city of Kansas City, MO.

As an African-American female, the struggle for human rights and equality is personal to TaKeisha, who understands the need to fight stereotypes.

TaKeisha holds a Master of Science in Management and Marketing from the University of Maryland University College, a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from the University of Missouri Kansas City and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Communications from the University of Tulsa.  She is also a certified professional development facilitator.
