Policy Internship

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Policy Intern
Salary: $12.50 per hour
Location: Washington, DC
Reports To: Senior Associate for Policy and Advocacy and Executive Vice President

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will participate and assist in the implementation of AAPD’s policy agenda.

  • Supports the day-to-day policy activity under the direction of the Executive Vice President, particularly on the work of the Federal Commission on Long-Term Care;
  • Contribute to the development, analysis and implementation of AAPD’s policy agenda;
  • Participate in coalition meetings, policy briefings, conferences and other events relevant to AAPD’s policy agenda;
  • Assist in tracking, monitoring, researching, and preparing policy and/or advocacy materials as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will satisfy the following qualifications.

  • Strong analytical, writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Basic knowledge of legislative process
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Desired but not required experience working or familiarity with Medicaid populations, particularly around long-term services and supports (LTSS) and home and community-based services (HCBS)
  • Familiar with the health care benefits and the coverage needs of populations with chronic conditions (i.e., cancer, heart disease)
  • Passion for people with disabilities, poor and older Americans, with a desire to provide assistance to underserved populations 

EDUCATION

  • In process of receiving Bachelors or Master’s degree in a political science, public policy, health or other relevant area of study
