Sophie Poost, Programs Coordinator

Sophie Poost is the Programs Coordinator at AAPD working on the Summer Internship Program and the Disability Advocacy Certificate Program. She is passionate about helping young disabled leaders find their voice and connect with the larger disability community.
Prior to joining AAPD, Sophie worked at Mars Hill University in their Office of Student Life facilitating the internal operations of the office, communicating with community members, and supporting the development of student leaders. Sophie has previously worked in systems advocacy on disability rights issues related to housing, employment, and access in the community. While doing this work, Sophie became involved with the grassroots nonviolent disability rights organization, ADAPT. She graduated in 2018 from Elmira College with her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Anthropology. During her college years, she faced inaccessibility across campus in the cold New York winters. The barriers to inclusion led to her involvement with the school’s multicultural center, her interest in advocacy and activism, and eventually her career path.
In her free time, she volunteers with Disability EmpowHer Network as a member of their Social Media Committee and their Application Review Workgroup. Sophie also enjoys baking and eating pies and spending time with her pup, Argus.
