NCIL Conference – Voting Workshops and Events

On June 9, 2016, Clewiston’s Adult Day Training Center hosted a legislative advocacy program featuring a voting demonstration from Hendry County. Program participants met their local candidates, ensured their respective voter registrations were up to date, and engaged in practicing their voting skills

REV UP Kansas
May 13 & 16, 2016

The Kansas Disability Vote Project will be having REV UP & GOTV Trainings for staff and volunteers from Centers for Independent Living on May 13th & 16th relaying messages about getting people with disabilities and their families, friends, PCA’s, etc. registered, then talk about the issues to educate them, and then how do we get them out to vote. These individuals will be asked to take this information back to their CIL’s to pass on to the rest of their staff, board, customers, and volunteers to REV UP more people creating a ripple effect. We are also partnering with our League of Women Voters and the Disability Rights Center of KS (P&A). We plan to get Kansans with disabilities to Use Our Power to make a difference!

REV UP Election Assistance Commission Public Meeting
April 27, 2016 | 10am-3:30pm | Boston, MA

Join us for an Election Assistance Commission Public Meeting followed by a REV UP Strategy Meeting. 2016 is a national election year. The goal of this meeting is the creation of a strategy on how to get people with disabilities registered to vote, educated on the candidates and issues, and to the polls on Election Day, November 8, 2016.

Public Hearing on Accessible Voting – EAC will hold a public hearing to receive testimony from election administrators and voters with disabilities about accessible voting and the progress made since passage of the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA).  The objective of the hearing is to hear from voters with disabilities regarding their voting experiences, highlight EAC resources, and help election officials prepare for the 2016 elections.

PARTICIPATION: In advance of the hearing, voters with disabilities are encouraged to share their experiences with accessible voting with the EAC. You may submit your written testimony to the EAC to be included as part of the transcript. Please email: listen@eac.gov and place “testimony” in the subject line.

Presidential Candidate Call-In Day

In January 2016, all of the Presidential Candidates were sent a survey about their stances in issues important to the disability community. To date, the Clinton campaign has sent a response while the Trump campaign has not. On July 14th, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, the Alliance Center for Independence is organizing advocates to call or email the Trump Campaign Headquarters and demand that Donald Trump respond the to the disability questionnaire!

The campaign will focus on educating people about how to register to vote, the importance of voting and how you can help educate others to use their voting power to make a difference. Voting is our right and responsibility as a U.S. citizen. It is important for ALL of us to vote. Together we can make our voices heard. Light refreshments will be served.

Press Conference and Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) Training

This is an opportunity to increase the political power of people with disabilities while also engaging candidates and the media to recognize the disability community. Voting is significant way for the disability community to exert its influence at local, state and national elections.
