Mock Election
July 18, 2017 | White Hall, AR

The Disability Resource and Advocacy Center hosted a mock election for people with disabilities to prepare them to vote in a real election. SeRonna Johnson, director of The Disability Resource and Advocacy Center, welcomed visitors and helped them to understand the voting process. She helped host a voter registration drive along with the Arkansas Secretary of State’s Office.

 

REV UP Rally and Press Conference
July 19, 2017 | 10am | Little Rock, AR

The Arkansas State Independent Living Council (ARSILC) and other REV UP Arkansas partners will host a rally and press conference at the State Capitol Rotunda (2nd floor) on July 19th to recognize National Disability Voter Registration Week. Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola is confirmed as an event speaker. The Dayle McIntosh Center and Disability Rights California together with the Orange County Registrar of Voters are holding a voter registration and education event for local disability service providers and their consumers and clients. We are reaching out to people with disabilities and others throughout Orange County to encourage them to register and vote regardless of party affiliation. You will have the opportunity to: • Register to vote • Practice using an accessible voting machine • Learn how to fill out a voting ballot • Ask questions about voting laws • Learn how to take an active role in elections by volunteering. In an effort to connect with voters with disabilities, City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Elections is participating with the San Francisco Main Library for National Disability Voter Registration Week and encouraging people with disabilities to REV UP, or Register! Educate! Vote! Use your Power! On July 18th from 5-6 p.m. look for SF Elections at the Main Library Atrium (100 Larkin St, San Francisco, CA 94102) where they will be demonstrating accessible voting machines, explaining services for voters with disabilities, registering voters, and recruiting members to the Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee (VAAC). National Disability Voter Registration Week in Libraries Press Event!
July 19, 2017 | 11:30am | Hartford, CT

Hartford Public Library and Hartford Votes~Hartford Vota Coalition, as part of National Disability Voter Registration Week, July 17-21, will demonstrate the state’s Ballot Marking System, designed to improve the voting experience for people with disabilities at the library (500 Main Street Hartford, CT 06103). On Wednesday, July 19, at 11:30 am, Hartford Public Library CEO Bridget Quinn-Carey, Hartford Commissioner on Disability Issues Janet Wallens, Deputy Secretary of State Scott Bates, and HARC COO Gregory Grant, will talk about the importance of access to polling places. Hartford Public Library offers voter registration forms and provides information about polling places, absentee ballots, and Voter Bill of Rights, described on its website. The Downtown Library serves as a polling location on election days. All branches have voter registration forms. National Disability Voter Registration Week 2017

National Disability Voter Registration Week – Middle Georgia Regional Library
July 17-21, 2017 | Macon, GA

The Middle Georgia Regional Library (MGRL) is participating in a national effort to make the DISABILITY VOTE more influential. This effort, known as the REV UP Campaign, has designated July 17-21, 2017 as National Disability Voter Registration Week in advance of the November elections. REV UP stands for Register! Educate! Vote! Use your Power! MGRL will be hosting voter registration drives. The League of Women Voters has volunteered to help run the registration drives. Anyone interested is encouraged to visit the Macon-Bibb branch libraries to participate. Library locations and phone numbers can be found at bibblib.org. To register, patrons will need to provide a current, valid photo ID OR a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document showing the registrant’s name and address.

The National REV UP Campaign has formed new partnership with EveryLibrary, and provided us with a unique opportunity to move our Disability Voter Registration drive into the community. We are asking each of you to print a small packet of materials, visit your local library and ask them to help us with National Disability Voter Registration week. Americans with Disabilities Act Celebration Day

ADA Celebration Day is a yearly celebration of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It is held in Boston around the last week of July near the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act signing. Each year, we honor a local organization that has made an impact on accessibility or inclusion in Boston. ADA Celebration Day is an event for people of all ages and all abilities to come together and celebrate a milestone in the disability community. The Delaware County Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution proclaiming the week of July 17 as National Disability Voter Registration Week. Press Conference and Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) Training

Join Us As We Kick Off National Disability Voter Registration Week with Press Conference and Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) Training National Disability Voter Registration week is July 17th -21st. This is an opportunity to increase the political power of people with disabilities while also engaging candidates and the media to recognize the disability community. The event will be held at the Disability Rights Texas Austin office (2222 West Braker Lane, Austin, TX).

Voting is significant way for the disability community to exert its influence at local, state and national elections. Help us increase voter registration and participation in the political process by attending the press conference and volunteer deputy registrar training.

Following the press conference, a Volunteer Deputy Registrar training targeted towards self-advocates, service providers, community members, etc., will occur. After this short training, sponsored by the Travis County Voter Registrar’s office, participants will be qualified to register voters in Travis County!

We encourage all people with disabilities and our supporters who are interested in making the DISABILITY VOTE Count to attend the press conference. ‘National Disability Voter Registration Week’ is July 17-21. The Spokane Public Library will be partnering with 10 organizations in this year’s outreach. Not only will this be an event to raise awareness and an outreach effort to get more citizens registered to vote; we will be educating others on the barriers there are to voting and inform people of their options to vote. We will be surveying participants on what barriers they see in our community to voting and our partnering organizations will be taking that information to address it accordingly. The library will have staff at each location to sign up citizens for library cards, promote our collection specifically our audio books, eBook and large print materials.
