Support job opportunity for people with disabilities!

The Department of Labor is considering a regulation that would require companies with government contracts to increase their efforts to hire people with disabilities.  This rule is 39 years in the making and could be the biggest advancement for equal opportunity since the ADA.

Some are already objecting to these rules, so we need to show our support and ensure that it is adopted and enforced.

We can make a difference!  The Department is accepting comments about the rules until February 21.

You don’t have to be a lawyer, lobbyist, or policy expert to do this.  A personal statement from a community member is just as powerful—if not more so.

Here are some ideas that you might include:

  •  I am writing in support of the regulations to enforce section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  •  It’s important to me that people with disabilities have more employment opportunities.
  •  This rule will make a level playing field for millions of people with disabilities who are searching for jobs.
  •  I’ve faced challenges while looking for a job and this will help people like me have more opportunities to work.
  •  People with disabilities are ready to work and are as qualified as anyone else.  This rule will help us get into the work force and contribute our talents.
  •  This rule will make affirmative action programs for people with disabilities much more effective.
  •  Anything else you think is important in this conversation.
