December 4, 2012- Today partisan politics thwarted the passage of an international disability rights treaty, with only 8 Republicans supporting the measure; while 53 Democrats voted for passage.
While we would like to thank Republican Sens. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), John Barrasso (Wyo.), Scott Brown (Mass.), Susan Collins (Maine), Dick Lugar (Ind.), John McCain (Ariz.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), and Olympia Snowe (Maine) who voted with Democrats in favor of the treaty, the treaty will be forced into the legislative session of the 113th Congress.
AAPD will continue to promote the rights of all people with disabilities to achieve equal opportunity, economic power, independent living, and political participation. We will not give up this fight. Will you support us?
