Disability Mentoring Day Events

Every year, volunteer coordinators organize Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) events all over the country. AAPD serves as the national coordinator of DMD to promote career development for students and job-seekers with disabilities through hands-on career exploration and ongoing mentoring relationships.

 

Delaware

Disability Mentoring Day
October 17, 2018 | Newark and Talleyville

More than 90 students with disabilities are expected to participate in career-building experiences during Delaware’s Disability Mentoring Day on Oct. 17 at locations in Newark and Talleyville. Disability Mentoring Day is held each October during National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

Florida

iRISE2 Disability Mentoring Day
October 19, 2018 | Palm Beach County, FL

Friday, October 19 is iRISE2 Disability Mentoring Day in Palm Beach County. Help build awareness to support employment for individuals with disabilities in the workplace and in PBC county. To help make this day a success, iRISE2 Mentoring Program has partnered with LexisNexis Risk Solution to offer a 4-hour job shadowing opportunity for individuals interested in exploring a career in the technology industry. 2018 University of Kentucky Disability Mentoring Day
November 1, 2018 | 12pm-4pm | Lexington, KY

Maine

Bates College Career Exploration Day
October 18, 2018 | 9am-12pm | Lewiston, ME

Students from local area high schools will be able to tour on of Maine’s oldest college and learn about the positions available at college. They will be able to tour different departments that support the student body and college. This is the third year that the college has hosted this event. Career Exploration Day at TD Bank
October 24, 2018 | 9am-12pm | Lewiston, ME

TD Bank, one of Maine’s largest employers will be hosting Career Exploration Day to students from local area high schools. Students will learn about positions and jobs within company. Massachusetts

Disability Mentoring Day
October 19, 2018 | 8:30am-5pm | Boston, MA

The City of Boston Mayor’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities will host a Disability Mentoring Day on October 19, 2018. In the morning, participants will meet with mentors in various city departments. There will be a working lunch focused on employment opportunities with the city. Work Without Limits (WWL) 3rd Annual Disability Mentoring Day

Mentees’ are paired with a career professional (aka Mentors) from one of our companies to learn what it means to work in that company, field or occupation; observe a typical work day; identify necessary skills; and learn about possible internships or employment prospects. Disability Workforce Readiness Expo
October 6, 2018 | 12pm-4pm | Newark, NJ

Eyes Like Mine, Inc. will host this two day event to prepare interested employment seekers with readiness sessions that will refer to accessibility, accommodation needs and training, resume building, and interview etiquette. The final day will be a variety of employers interested in providing job shadowing opportunities,volunteer opportunities, and hiring slots temporary and long term. Disability Mentoring Day
October 17, 2018 | 8am-10:30am | Syracuse, NY

Disability Mentoring Day begins with a Kick-Off event which includes breakfast. This year it will be held at Drumlin’s (800 Nottingham Rd, Syracuse, NY 13224), beginning at 8:00 a.m. Mentees and Mentors will have the opportunity to get to know each other during this event. Some employers send representatives; some send the staff members who will be mentoring the mentees. The mentees will arrive after the Kick-Off Event, between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. Usually they will stay to or through lunchtime. VR’s 2018 Disability Mentoring Day (DMD)

2018 Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) on Friday, October 12, 2018. DMD is a national movement designed to bring students with disabilities into the workplace where they learn first-hand about various career opportunities. Paired with a career professional, these students observe part of a typical workday, identify necessary skills, and learn about possible internships or employment prospects. While DMD is a one-day event, mentors and mentees are encouraged to stay in touch. Mentoring benefits both the mentor and student, advancing career development and personal growth… As part of your plan with SCVRD we want to focus on the Pre-Employment Transition Services (PRE-ETS) Job Exploration Counseling Work Based Learning Experience – Introduction to Self-advocacy – will highlight this event. After the student’s complete their mentoring activities they will be provided lunch at Richland Two Conference Center (7201 Two Notch Rd. Columbia, SC 29223) along with a guest speaker.

Washington, DC

USCIS Mentoring Day

Various U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices will sponsor at least one or two students to shadow an employee or manager per location. Event will have an opening/welcome session, and after that students will go with their mentors. America’s Workforce: Empowering All

The ONEDOT National Disability Employment Awareness Month Committee will host an event with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao and DOT Senior Leadership for America’s Workforce: Empowering All program. This event will be held at 10am on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, in the West Building Atrium (1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE Washington, DC 20590).
