Internship Program Manager

Katie Johnson is a Program Manager for AAPD’s Summer Internship Program, Fall Internship Program, and Disability Advocacy Certificate Program. Katie’s work is centered on promoting intersectional and cross-disability social movements that promote the principles of disability justice. They bring experience in justice-based training and facilitation, program planning and project management, and accessible communications.

Prior to joining AAPD, Katie worked as a program specialist at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) where they provided technical assistance to the national network of UCEDDs. They coordinated technical assistance around equity, diversity, and inclusion and plain language, planned large annual events, and launched and managed AUCD’s podcast, AUCD Network Narratives.

Katie earned their MPA with a specialization in Nonprofit Disability Services from the University of Delaware. While at UD, Katie helped launch the Access:Ability Scholars program, serving undergraduate students interested in disability and justice. Katie’s also a researcher, having worked with the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities to research the state of the Direct Support Professional (DSP) workforce and as an early-stage researcher with the Disability Advocacy Research in Europe (DARE) Project, researching innovative self-directed support models for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Outside of work, Katie is active in their community, and enjoys hanging out in local DC coffee shops or spending time in the woods.
